SUMMER TERM 30th April – 9th July 2025 (11 weeks plus showcase on 12th July 2025)

BRANDON SUTHERLAND Brandon has been dancing, choreographing and acting from a very young age, choreographing his first show at the age of 14 for the Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond. He has obtained a degree in Dance Choreography and in 2022 set up his own dance company, ‘Sutherland Dance’. Since graduating, Brandon has gone on to choreograph and perform for Stage, TV and Film, as well as a successful career in dance teaching across venues around London.

MAC ADAMS Mac recently completed his Master’s at Tileyard Education, following a first-class degree in English and Drama from the University of Exeter. He has written and composed three shows for the Edinburgh Fringe, including a musical that enjoyed a sell-out run in 2022. As a musical director, Mac has led several choirs, including one that reached the national finals, performing his original work at the Hackney Empire and the New Wimbledon Theatre. With experience in composing and teaching choirs across Oxfordshire and Devon, Mac is eager to bring his passion and expertise to his new role as a teacher and tutor.

Discover the joy and creativity of Musical Theatre in this fun and fabulous course. These weekly classes offer you the chance to master the essential components of Musical Theatre: acting, singing and dancing. If you love the West End and have a passion for singing along to showtunes, let our top industry professionals hone your theatrical skills. All of our classes are taught in a fun and supportive environment. Most of the singing and dancing will be done as a group but there are opportunities for solos!

Become a Master of your Craft

Over the 12 week course, you will work with Stage & the City’s experienced team who will guide you through a selection of musical theatre numbers, working on the essential components of singing, acting and dance.

You will develop the skills needed to perform in a musical and what it takes to keep an audience entertained. This is a great way to develop upon skills already learned in our previous introductory courses/workshops or an alternative beginners course elsewhere, and take your talent to the next level! However, you are welcome to join this course even if you haven’t done an introduction course.

Course Content - Spring Term

OVERALL OBJECTIVES FOR THIS SPRING TERM: To nurture a safe and positive environment for the freedom of expression and enjoyable learning. Ensure that all members of the group leave the term with a professional standard video they can use however they wish

  • WEEK ONE: Workshop Week-Holding out for a Hero – Shrek. Understanding the song’s story, meaning and our intentions with it as a group.
    Begin to familiarise ourselves with the melody of the song and the basic dance structures.
  • WEEK TWO: Focus WeekHolding out for a Hero – Shrek. Split into groups and look at the harmony of the number in more depth. Learn the full choreography in unison.
  • WEEK THREE: Refinement WeekHolding out for a Hero – Shrek. Solos will be given out and the vocal parts will be polished. Choreography will be put into formation. We will run the number as many times as we can working on our performance.
  • WEEK FOUR: Workshop Week-Lady Marmalade – Moulin Rouge. Understanding the song’s story, meaning and our intentions with it as a group.
    Begin to familiarise ourselves with the melody of the song and the basic dance structures.
  • WEEK FIVE: Focus WeekLady Marmalade – Moulin Rouge. Split into groups and look at the harmony of the number in more depth. Learn the full choreography in unison.
  • WEEK SIX: Refinement Week-Lady Marmalade – Moulin Rouge. Solos will be given out and the vocal parts will be polished. Choreography will be put into formation. We will run the number as many times as we can working on our performance.
  • WEEK SEVEN: Workshop WeekSunday – Tick…Tick…Boom! Understanding the song’s story, meaning and our intentions with it as a group.
    Begin to familiarise ourselves with the melody of the song and the basic dance structures.
  • WEEK EIGHT: Focus WeekSunday – Tick…Tick…Boom! Split into groups and look at the harmony of the number in more depth. Learn the full choreography in unison.
  • WEEK NINE: Refinement WeekSunday – Tick…Tick…Boom!  Solos will be given out and the vocal parts will be polished. Choreography will be put into formation. We will run the number as many times as we can working on our performance.
  • WEEK TEN: Polish-Recap all numbers and iron any issues or problems that the group is facing. Ensure that all vocal parts and choreography has been learnt and remembered correctly. Discuss simple costumes for filming.
  • WEEK ELEVEN:Final polish-Run all three numbers as many times as possible. Focus will be on performance, facial expression and overall cohesion of the group.
  • WEEK TWELVE: Filming Week-Spend whole session recording the numbers getting the best take of each one.

Once you have completed this course you will have the opportunity to audition for our exciting Musical Theatre Troupe.  We also offer this course on Tuesdays in Camden.
